Sustainable fashion, subcultures and forward thinkers in a lightning storm.
Berlin Fashion Week January 16-21, 2023
We started the year 2023 with a real eye-catcher. From January 16 to 21, 2023, the Berlin Fashion Week took place in the Stilwerk Kantgaragen with over 350 guests from the political, cultural and creative scene. The theme of sustainable and forward-looking fashion by newcomers and established designers was at the forefront of the runway. But also “The Berlin Metaverse®” went completely new ways for this event and attracted attention.
Sustainability in the spotlight of the Berlin Fashion Week
Sustainability is a topic that concerns us all – and so is Berlin Fashion Week this year. Through over 100 designers, sustainable fashion will be the focus of Fashion Week. Co-CEO VORN – The Berlin Fashion Hub Magdalena Schaffrin pointed out that the economic, the social, but also the ecological and cultural pillars of sustainability were considered. In fact, this year “Mercedes-Benz” was not the main sponsor of Fashion Week for the first time.
Gaming classic Need for Speed meets feminine contemporary collection
Numerous up-and-coming talents as well as established designers presented their innovative-creative fashion last week. Among them LML Studio, Rianna+Nina, SF1OG, Malaika Raiss, Esther Perbandt and ODEEH, who presented their fashion collections and concepts at different locations.
On display was a collaboration by Namilia with the gaming classic Need for Speed, a feminine contemporary collection by Marc Cain, which he presented at Tempelhof Airport, and a dark collection by Haderlump, strongly reminiscent of the club scene in Berlin, which was presented in the catacombs of the Bötzow Brewery.
The Berlin Metaverse® – Virtual Fashion
At the same time of this on-site spectacle in Berlin, another event took place: “The Berlin Metaverse®”. Thanks to Anna Franziska Michel, CEO and Co-Founder of yoona.ai, fashion brands were able to experiment and try out the latest technology options in the Metaverse from 6 p.m. on January 16, 2023 on. The focus of “The Berlin Metaverse®” was to drive the growth potential of the fashion industry and promote local design talent from Berlin and Germany. There were to be no limits to creativity and the brands were to develop fashion beyond the boundaries of time, space and physics.
